For many years, Kenya has suffered political and social tensions
originating from simple things such as tribalism. I call them “simple”
because in Tanzania asking someone about their tribe is still to a large
extent taken as a crime. You are Tanzanian, period. It doesn’t matter
where my deeper roots are.
Things are changing in Kenya [at least that is what outsiders like me are convinced to believe]. One person responsible for uniting Kenyans right now is their President, Uhuru Kenyatta. He is regarded as cool, uncomplicated and well… man of the people including the underdogs, street folks. He is fashionable and from time to time likes to portray what Kenya is or what it can become.
